Most warlords in rougher areas of the world today are not big beefy buggers....they still look like politicians.
Some are still big beefy soldier types...but they combine brawn AND intelligence.
These new leaders will just be making sure that the folks underneath them are just intelligent enough to do their jobs, but not intelligent enough to be a threat.
I would hazard a 10 am Saturday guess that is why leadership in early human tribes was often genetic. The smart ones ran it, and their genes were passed on. Pure strength-nased ones failed to thrive, and succumbed to other, more cunning, groups.
Just a thought. This doesn't mean the low lifes haunting the meth labs and biker bars, but the prepared people who have the psychological ability to perform the barbarian tasks necessary to survive.

Owning a gun and a thousand rounds doesn't make one a warrior. The current gender roles along with just about everything else in play today is unnatural.

Stupid liberals think that they can change what stood the test of time for thousands of years, within a few short years, and replace it with something that runs contrary to nature. But even if we could, we no longer have the navy to protect the shipping. Same post-collapse. Even more so with my income as I somewhat do seasonal work. I feel it's a good trade off as I really like my free time to do my own thing and not spend every waking moment on the treadmill.

Even if we get a Mad Max world, we will still need to trade goods and services and that means cities. I can't imagine trade without some protection from bad guys.

Chuck FindlayAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-42689159983599697092016-02-05T16:38:34.769-08:002016-02-05T16:38:34.769-08:00If we get a bad collapse where there is a period w...If we get a bad collapse where there is a period without law or the perception of being held accountable for ones action I think there will indeed be barbarians that will take action to pillage. We have seen this after the King riots in LA. Low-life people will see such event as a shopping spree to take what they want and somehow think there will be no day of reckoning for their actions.

But this period will likely be short lived as (to the dismay of politicians) there are a lot of people in this country that own guns and will use them to protect their families. And people in general don't like anarchy and uncertainty of their future so I see a lot of local police forces and normal people forming up to protect their local area if government can't seem to do it. After all, how long would you put up with a bunch of brigands hell-bent on killing and raping your family? My guess not at all.

What protects barbarians or brigands from acting out today is the same thing that prevents normal people from killing them. That being government protection. As if you take the law into your own hands and shoot a thug hell-bent on killing or robbing you it's a good bet you could end up in jail.

When you take away the threat of government action to curb barbarians from having their way to rape, kill and pillage you also at the same time take away the government action to stop people from protecting their family. It may be a great life being a low-life brigand for a few weeks, but then all the sudden your like is going to be taken away because people must kill you if they want a chance of life. You will become a target of everyone with a rifle with a scope.

At this point it's going to be free hunting season on barbarians and brigands and their life will be short. Yes they will kill people, but every engagement will put them at risk of death and the more engagements you do the more you are likely to get high-speed lead poisoning.

If the collapse is bad enough to disrupt the flow of gasoline it will also make it hard for brigands to expand out far. This may give the people out in the country a buffer from the violence cities are likely to see.

But if we don't have a full-blown collapse and only hard-times (think 1930’s or Argentina in 2001, or Grease today) the cities will actually be safer (FerFal writes about this and tells what did happen in Argentina in 2001 in his “Must-Have” book) as everybody must have money and cities have more money flowing then the country in a down-turned economy. What happened in Argentina in 2001 was that people in remote farms were robbed, raped, killed because the bad guys knew there was little help likely to come galloping over the hill to rescue people. No one can hear you scream when your closest neighbor is a mile or more away. But in a city the neighbor is close and it makes it much harder to spend days in a home doing bad things without being noticed as did happen in Argentina in 2001. (Again this applies to anything short of a Mad Mad world, and I think that is the most likely thing.)

It's downright hard to make a living in the country for most people. And remove the easy flow of goods to the country we have today and it makes for a hard life that we are not use to. I would love to be out in the country (way out) but the reality of my work (home repair) needs a good amount of people that need my work. Most peoples jobs are the same way. I've been a prepper for 25-years, but only actively been working on working myself off the grid for 10-years and I still feel I need contact with people to work to make money. In the next year or so I plan a move to 25-miles out or so as it’s out enough to give me a buffer and still close enough to still work. But who knows how it will work out. History is a good predictor of the future, but nothing is written in stone.

Chuck FindlayAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-29102238034647300432016-02-05T15:43:11.346-08:002016-02-05T15:43:11.346-08:00Barbarians had slaves for the tasks civilization n...Barbarians had slaves for the tasks civilization needed, as in constructing siege machines.
