Some say internet business but service out there is mighty expensive. Making the land pay off your living expenses is a job in itself. Sure you can raise livestock, but in times of drought, hay bales cost $8 a piece. Figure a bale per three adult cows, a month is $240 more or less. In a more temperate climate where steady rain falls, animal feed is less.

Finding an older couple willing to teach 'city folk' who would later purchase the land would be a great way to go Green Acres. I've been ...Lord Bison, a question if I may... I've been looking at "junk land" for some time now, more recently actually shopping as opposed to just looking, but here is my question: If all other specifics are equal (distance to town and/or water, same basic region, weather, neighbors, etc.) and the decision comes down to 1 acre that you can pay cash for, OR 2.5 acres that could take 12-18 months to pay off, what would you do?

My lizard brain says just grab the acre. My thinky-brain says 1 acre is NOT sufficient for a Hermitage. I recognize that all I'm trying to do is have a legal squat, a glorified, private campground. BUT, when things go sideways and I find Im stuck out there and really need to make a go if it, room for food production and privacy will be MUCH more valuable.

Or, as per usual, am I really just overthinking the whole thing...

You've discussed your land and B-Pod many a time, but I never really got a sense of just how much land is yours. Knowing your past issues with neighbors and theft, I'm inclined toward a larger plot, but having lost my ass financially a couple times (first in the 2001.com bust) I know how FAST you can get to having nothing... UNpaid land is as much a risk as rent.

Just looking for your "been there, done that" wisdom.jlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14662563822328082468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-36243251689455742942020-06-01T15:08:55.123-07:002020-06-01T15:08:55.123-07:00Dateline -- Eugene, Oregon
