sucker survivalists

SUCKER SURVIVALISTS
Let's talk about my strong prejudice. I don't think I'm very smart-really, I don't. I DO think most people are dumber than a box of rocks, so if I hold any advantage over them at all it is that I'm not AS stupid. And part of my Not Very Smartness is that I WANT stupid people to suffer for their folly. So, an economic collapse comes along along and of course my initial reaction, my prejudice, is that I want the idiots that caused this financial meltdown to suffer. So, by inclination, my default response is going to be “burn, baby, burn”.
*
Am I being an idiot? I just might be. Obviously, if you've read me for any length of time, you understand I KNOW, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that our civilization will collapse. This is not conjecture or fear- to me, this is holy religious writ. It is carved in stone. I grew up that way during the Cold War and everything that has happened since only reinforces my religious fervor. I'm trying to be stone cold rationally and brutally honest here. You could show me irrefutable proof that we would never crash and I simply would reject anything you have to say. My faith was always strong and it just gets stronger.
*
So, yes, I do tend towards a smidge of sensationalism. I just assume I'll be vindicated one morning, the only question being which day. So would it be easy to play me? Of course it would. Just throw me proof, and I'd have no problem proclaiming your apocalypse. Could we have all been played, this year? Could we actually be in a Business As Usual environment, rather than a collapsing one? Because all this panic about the economy was from the central bank ( with its butt buddies in corporations and government ), and they could have played us like a fiddle just to save THEIR economy.
*
Don't get me wrong-we are definitely in a Depression so colossal that it makes 1929 look like a Weak Tea attempt at scaring the proles into giving up their gold in return for their economy back ( if they'd sacrifice a portion of their sons fighting to save the British empire for the American elites profit, AND their gold. And a few of the weaker of the herd to malnutrition. Really, a bargain if you think about it ). Our grandchildren won't be hearing from us about this Depression because most of us, and them, aren't going to make it. No, my only question is if this is a civilization collapse or not.
*
I'm ACTING as if that were the case, which is what survivalism was always about-acting as if time was short and we were all going to die. You cannot NOT assume that and adequately prepare, as many NUG's have recently found out. But just because I act as if the end is nigh doesn't mean I have the luxury of not learning if that is the case or not. Intellectual honesty is a trait I've always held dear. Only by knowing what is wrong with yourself can you fix the problem. Now, in my case, I'm perfect, but you understand where I'm coming from. In the end, your life doesn't change much ( compared to a total collapse ) in a Super Depression. It just makes it harder to fight back effectively.
*
I'm not saying We Are All Saved. I still assume This Is It, The End Is Nigh. But I'm just wondering, IS this just another banker bail out? Granted, it is The Mother Of All Wealth Transfers, but it has also been done so many times in our history, I have to honestly take stock in its probability of occurrence. At the end of the War Of Northern Aggression, it literally was a hell on earth as citizens were killed off wholesale by starvation as Sherman and Grant scorched earth the crap out of the place.
*
It must have felt like a true End Times, but as a whole the nation emerged stronger, even if a select few were so much more wealthy ( the old agricultural titans lost all the wealth as they became commodity providers on a colonial model, and workers went from independent farmers to serfs in the factories, so you can kind of see a giant upheaval parallel to now-if indeed this is what is happening. This is all conjecture, which I would think is obvious, but you never know with folks ). In the Revolutionary War, many loyalists to the Crown lost all their wealth and fled to Canada and similar. A few elites gained the wealth mechanism, but at least White indentured mostly saw some return on the fight as the system relaxed its excesses.
*
The War To Save JP Morgan's Wealth, when the US went over to Europe to fight in the trenches, did see another independent farmer wealth transfer, eventually, but not only do I have few tears to cry over their dumbasses not foreseeing demand destruction, the US lost its independence years back in 1913, so the major damage was already done. The Federal government turning the States into colonies fifty years previous made that Red Shield coup rather easy. You can easily see that when a war of giant financial crash occurs, the bankers clamp down even tighter and steal even more wealth, yes? I KNEW this, yet was convinced that THIS time, by gum, they had gone too far and overplayed their greed.
*
But what if they haven't? Let's return to the previously mentioned Cold War. What could be more insane than arming your only capable enemy with nuclear weapons, for profit? That is exactly what I believe we did, a couple of patsies, a foreshadowing of Oswald, executed for supposedly giving Stalin our deepest secret weapon. Who do you think gave Britain and France their weapons? And, more obvious than the giant pimple on your shoulder you call your thinking cap, Israel. And I'll take this opportunity to remind you, hating Jews for their religion and hating a Jewish state for its actions ( cough, USS Liberty ) is two different things, so hump you hard, compromised national loyalty twats.
*
What could be more dangerous than arming our enemies with a globe ending arsenal, for profit? So, really, why would we imagine that ruining the entire economy-that was failing anyway-isn't a valid strategy for our banker elite? They were ALREADY building refuges in sanctuary areas as the bulk of the country was failing, HARD, economically. Why NOT expand that to the rest of the so far unaffected areas? They just solved overpopulation AND resource consumption issues, instantly. Shouldn't we be in awe of their diabolical plan? I'll continue tomorrow.

  1. Yeah, sometimes it is rather amusing watching the Religion of Doomsday Survival and its Hysterical Preachers get the timing of the Second Coming of Doomsday wrong over and over and over again..

Do you think that they'll ever learn that Doomsday and/or the Second Coming will actually happen just as Jesus Christ himself foretold, e.g., "as a thief in the night"... I grew up in a survivalist family. My stepfather was a WW2 Frogman and just one hell of a man in general. Among many things, he was in charge of our town's Civil Defense program. He and the local sheriff made sure there was two years supply of emergency food for our families and six weeks of public supplies in the US Office Basement... Moreover, my stepfather had both a ranch and a farm and a very successful small business. He was a natural survivalist just by the very nature of his lifestyle.

So what really happened? None of that Civil Defense shit was EVER used. And I remember how my stepfather really, really believed nuclear war was only a matter of time - a few years at most. Another thing he used to tell everyone is how he'd never see a penny of Social Security, because the government was going bust and the USA would split apart and life as we knew it would end... Well, dear ol' stepdad is in his 90s and guess what? The USA is now an Empire and SSI, Medicaid and veterans retirement over the course of three decades has paid him millions in benefits and retirement checks....

Are we learning yet? I know I did. My stepdad had an impressive fallout shelter. So do I, and it's well stocked, too. But I use it as an ongoing SHTF insurance policy. Lately, I've been stockpiling my hunting and fishing ranch, too - just in case. Just in case of what? Just in case the end comes like "a thief in the night" - unexpected, by surprise, sneaky and nobody knows when and God only knows "the day or hour"... No man knows. Not really. Not even my stepfather who still is one hell of a man with a lot more skill and experience under his belt than 99.999% of the other survivalists out there.

A nuclear launch could happen today even as you're reading this. The second wave of Covid-1984 could happen a few months from now. A Grand Solar Minimum could happen a few years from now - or none of the above could happen in my lifetime -or yours. So what is a smart person to really do? Dig another hole and fill it up with Civil Defense rations?

Bet on the American Empire NOT collapsing and the ignorant masses muddling through one more year or two or ten. That's the smart bet. Surviving day-to-day in the American Empire is what the smart people learn how to do well. The people who learn to survive and prosper in the concrete jungle can actually do quite well compared to any other empire in history.

The collapse of the American Empire and subsequent Dark Age is NOT the immediate position to take. Enjoy what's left of the power grid and hedge against the day the lights go out. That way you won't look back and wish you'd taken a little more time to enjoy life in the American Empire..

Enjoy that stimulus check. Don't worry, there are more coming. Lots more. Make sure you learn how to get as many as you can... because the ignorant masses sure will and so will the Banksters.

    1. All empires fail. The smart bet is that ours does also. But I take your point. Don't JUST live survivalism. Your dad didn't burn his bridges. He still paid into SS. The independent contractor that doesn't pay into it, to save money now, THAT is burning a bridge you shouldn't. You are placing your bet FIRST on collapse but also paying the price, secondly, that empire continues. But don't reverse the priority of those bets. We only have to be right once, about the system collapsing. But I do appreciate your above-it keeps things in perspective.

  2. Following. Right. There are some serious macro devious coordination and shenannigans going on with the fed, state, local,>.govs, along with the media like a choir in precision messaging, helped along with corporate and celebrity personality types acting as dog whistlers to the cause. This is too rich of a pudding to not be totally concocted for ulterior motivations of many forms.

There were lines of cars at bank of america and wells fargo atm drive throughs (like a food give away spectacle) of folks getting their .gov gibs payments. It is a bribe to the palm kinda pay off to the working class, so they look the other way like a sleepy night watchman, while the globalist red shield forces loot and pillage the banks >and< the food graineries.

Be the gray man shuffling along in plain sight, yet being the frostiest.

    1. I'm finding my main frustration to be the food situation. Just like it too too long to figure out, well, it WAS just the flu, bro. I don't think I have three months to figure out if the food shortages are real, collapse time, or orchestrated, profit taking.

  3. I do believe that this is truly the beginning of the end. I just fail to see how, that when all is said and done, and when we do finally re-open, it will result in anything less than around half of the country being out of work. And jobs just don’t bounce back from such a loss. As a result, the fed will just keep printing money, eventually resulting in hyper-inflation.

I’d hate to be the holder of a 30+ year mortgage. But if you are, now is the time to look at that wall, and see the writing on it. Junk land will be your saviour, for when/if you lose that home.

Blues, living in the cities, will be okay. After all, the federal govt, the most efficient institution known to man, will always be along to bail them out :D So long as they’re mindfully aware, that to TheOtherColors® they will be affectionately referred to as TheOtherWhiteMeat® :D

    1. Ha! Other White Meat. Classic. Yeah, if unemployment is now 50%, WITH the official gov meddling of data, and that also doesn't include the still not officially counted folks, the few jobs we get back ain't going to count for much. And STILL the governors keep extending the lock downs. The only cure for stupid is collapse and die-off. I really don't expect a reprieve, but I must consider the angles.

  4. Cont.

Reverse Mortgage. My parents were terrible at managing money, so following my father’s passing, my mother really struggled. She is now in the process of getting a reverse mortgage. Since I know a little about the process, I can shed some light on it. Some loans are set up, so that in addition to the monthly payment “going away”, you also receive a monthly stipend based on the equity in your home. However, with the loan that my mother is getting, she will not be tapping into the home equity, aside from the having the loan paid off.

The Catch: For those that may have been wondering. The monthly payment, indeed goes away. However, if you pay nothing on the loan, the interest accrues. In other words, if you had hoped to leave your estate to your family, there may be nothing left to leave them when the time comes, depending on how long you live. I asked my mother how much she would have to optionally pay each month, to keep the interest on the loan down, and basically, the payment will almost be the same.

Bottom line: It’s probably not worth pursuing, unless you have no heirs, and wish to stay in your home for the rest of your days, and have no other options. Another option, would be to sell the home in the near future, pay off the loan, and downsize. Though I’d hate to have to rely on the market ever coming back, in order to do so...

    1. I would probably view it as free rent, with the idiots ending up with my crap box getting screwed on it in the end. Seems like winning.

    2. Ha! Never looked at it like that Jim. But I like your take on it :D

At the same time, this would be my inheritance. I know what that sounds like, and I certainly don’t wish to see my mother depart this earth anytime soon, but I suppose there’s no nice way to sugar coat it. I too am another, that made poor financial decisions. Unlike my parents however, I learned my lesson. And I’m perfectly willing to be holed up on my junk land, in a crappy plywood earth sheltered, and am fully willing to embrace the suck :D

      inheritance

Put me in your will for your cast-iron cookery.
I'll put you in my will for my gardening tools.

This subject was discussed on a different forum.
A college-hopeful asked her grandmother 'how much am I getting?'.
Granny was aghast at the audacity.
The forum was probably about RecreationVehicles, many responses included the tired "We're spending our children's inheritance" bumper-sticker.

Instead of that dirty old cash, how about a nice hand-made afghan for your couch.
Yellow and brown with orange flowers.
You'll be the envy of all your friends!

    4. Think of the money you'll save, able to buy cheap torn chairs/couches. With an afghan cover, the old is suddenly new again! Thanks, Grams.

  5. Survivalists are just another 'caste sect' of individuals. Like some type of guild club wearing colors as a biker all wrapped up in "the lifestyle" motifs. A shame that despite earnest efforts they are just suckers too. The modern economic and regulatory systems effectively castrate any rogue self reliant types. The digital fencing and technological barb wire restrains any other bystanders from having similar errant thoughts about going galt independant off the reservation. Survivalists that see themselves as an exception, and giddily glow with pride over pantry inventories are also going to get a rude chain yanking as well, as a reminder of their place in things. No one escapes alive.

    2. I can give many examples of survivalism paying off for me in terms of having concepts, skills, or tangible stuff that got me through interesting situations. That flies in the face of TPTB castrating me and making it all a sham.

    3. Those castrating you belong to a rival tribe. As such, they chant their war cries, based not on reality but on shared opposition to your tribe. Reality and rationality have nothing to do with it. They hate you just because you are Other.

  6. Events being orchestrated for one last money grab makes a lot of sense. The stupidity coming out of congress is hard to comprehend. It will be interesting to see how many politicians decide to not run this fall. If a large number then they are getting out of dodge.

I hope being away from crowds pays off. It will get spicy in the country or in towns and cities but I think the anonymity in population centers will embolden the horde. I took the time to know my neighbors and we have a plan. Can you do that in the city? I was in town for Katrina and most of my neighbors were useless. Country neighbors have more skills and can bring more to the table.

We are cutting ATV trails and walking trails through our adjoining properties in hope of being able to move, escape, support each other with less chance of being noticed. We even have enough field phones and field wire to link up the whole group on the hill. Not perfect but we are giving it hell.

  7. I think of late you seem to speak as if the stages of collapse will all come in rapid succession. Not clear where this is going, but collapse is uneven over space and time, short of a massive asteroid or all out thermonuclear war. Be patient. It will greet you soon enough, but it won’t announce itself with neon billboards and constant tv commercials. You run when the starter gun sounds, not when people start lining up near the starting line.

    1. We've had a long slow decline for fifty years. Wouldn't it make sense that the end stages went rather more quickly?

    2. That sounds about right...I'm a couple weeks shy of 52, and it seems like the USA has been getting progressively worse my entire life. A tough row to hoe for an eternal optimist, let me tell you.

Right now Im battling "crisis fatigue". So freakin' sick of the so-called experts and the transmission models and the prognostication of what the future holds, that I simply can't bring myself to care anymore.

I've got food stacked to the ceiling, a decent supply of brass and lead and a robust medical kit. Whatever happens, happens. When its time to get my ticket punched, I only hope I can take a few of the bastards out with me. Bonus points if those bastards are in banking, politics or practicing law...those I feel MOST responsible for our demise.

      Delete
    3. But the last fifty we’re not smooth and steady decline... fits and spurts. I expect a sharp drop to also be uneven and not always straight down. When Rome failed it was a big deal for Europe, but China just rolled along. More global now, but still I expect different rates of decline different places.

    4. jl-yes, a lot of yammering about how we're all going to die, but I've gotten pretty good muting both commie propaganda and conservative empty macho posturing, so I guess its not as grating to me. Lawyers and bankers are scum of the earth. I'd rather dine with Hitler and Manson ( of course, both were a bit unfairly judged by those who benefited from the smear job, and I usually vote for the underdog )
