the forever gun book 5

THE FOREVER GUN BOOK 5
*
note: the last two books of the Lord Conrad series are on KU ( here's one )
The first of the series were much better of course ( authors page )
*
RIMFIRE ARSENAL

Before we cover alternate calibers ( hint: there aren’t that many so don’t get too excited ) I’ll go ahead and cover the original.  You can still go with rimfire if you so wish.  There are a couple of different strategies to employ to keep the cost down.  One of the things I like about rimfire is that I can stay away from semi-automatic weapons.  True, I bought a tube fed semi at Wal-Mart for a whole $99.  But that was what they were offering at the time I had come a-shopping with tax return money and the firm decision not to leave without a complete kit ( well, okay, I had to come back the next week for more ammo ).  It was a Better Than Nothing firearm.  But I was never happy with it.  The parts being plastic and the metal being barely adequate, the fact that is was also a semi stuck in my craw even more.  I ended up replacing it nearly a decade later with bolt actions ( I fought buying more guns that whole time as I was focused on food and ammo ).

*

I now have one of those kids starter rifles, the single shot bolt with scope ( Cricket, or Grasshopper or something cute like that ) for $150.  The only reason I got it was the extremely low weight.  I don’t envision being able to survive long term mobile, but it still seemed like a good idea to have a rifle weighing next to nothing.  The other rifle, at an INSANE cost of $225, is a five shot bolt action with heavy barrel.  I figure that one is what I want for my 100+ yard gun.  As I purchased a revolver pre-Y2K, I already had my sidearm.  If things go south quick, a sidearm counters the limitations of a single shot long gun.  The great thing about the bolt action rifle and the revolver?  You probably don’t need ten thousand rounds.  With $400 cost for the weapons, an additional $600 gets you your ammo ( or, at least 6k of it-not too god awful shabby, if not perfect.  Admittedly, ten thousand rounds is arbitrary to a certain degree ).

*

Another option to reduce the cost of a rimfire forever gun is to reload your ammo.  Go to

For under a hundred bucks you can buy a reloading tool for the 22 LR rimfire.  If I recall correctly, additional primer material and powder is about two or two and a half cents a round.  Even three isn’t bad.  Anything more, not so much due to the limitations of the caliber.  Just make sure you can hammer back out the firing pin indentation on the rounds.  Otherwise, this could become a serious issue for reliability ( if the pin hits in the same previous dent, you get a misfire ).  That same company also sells a tool that makes a #11 percussion cap out of an aluminum can for your black powder gun ( I imagine you buy the same or similar primer fluid as for the 22 ).  If you already have a BP rifle or revolver, that is great news.  I still wouldn’t be exited enough about it to make it my Forever Gun, though, unless you already have the weapon.

*

You of course don’t NEED a sidearm to go with your rifle, but to me it seems that $200 is not too much more for piece of mind.  But of course, it does have to be within your budget.  I do NOT recommend a semi-auto in rimfire pistols.  Not just because I’m adverse to semi’s in general, but more so because of the added cost and the problematic nature of the weak round reliably cycling.  One thing you might think on is the possibility of archery with a back-up rimfire revolver.  Not that this would be my first choice, but if money is a big deal it might be something to think about.  You can get a nearly free bow by building your own PVC bow ( get the book, or at least watch You-Tube videos to get an idea if the book is a worthwhile purchase ).  And a revolver and 3k of rounds runs you just $500.

*

So, let’s place this all side by side financially.

Rifle only and half the ammo-$700

Bolt and revolver with only half the ammo- $900.

Both weapons plus reloading-$850 [ see below for prices ]

Revolver with half ammo and archery-$700

Revolver/archery plus reloading half ammo-$500

Factory ammo, 10k, plus both weapons-$1400

*

[ reloading costs assuming three cents a round-with salvaged lead, only powder and primer ]

The cost of the priming compound is one cent a round ( $20 makes 2k primers ).  I assume an additional two cents for smokeless powder, although I have no exact figure.  The reloading tool is about $75.  If you wish to resize the brass you need an additional $85 die.  Without this die you need to use the same rounds in the same gun.  I have no problem with this myself, as I have a Lee Loader for my Enfield’s and have the same issue after neck-size-only.  But beware you can’t mix up your revolver and your rifle rounds.  To some this might be an issue.  I personally don’t think so, as you either have time to save fired brass safely in a tactical situation, or you just leave them on the ground as you retreat.  But your mileage may vary.  I’ll just call the tool cost total at $75.  Original 1k rounds at $100.  9k reloads, $90 in primer material and $180 in powder.  $450 total.  Half ammo is $75 kit, 500 factory rounds at $50.  4k reloads is $45 in primer and $90 in powder for a total of $260.

new math attitude 3 of 3

NEW MATH ATTITUDE 3

What do Libertarians and Welfare Queens have in common?  Both are self-centered.  It is All About Them, Them Alone, And They Don’t Owe Nobody Nothing By Gum.  Libertarians constantly wave the flag of freedom.  They wrap their bodies in its cloth, beseeching the ghosts of Revolutions Past and Baby Jesus Himself, singing the hit song “No Feelings” by the Sex Pistols.  Meanwhile, those on welfare protect themselves from self-analysis with the God Of Gods, NEED, self righteous anger and/or revenge and by being the sole bearer of the Truth About The Conspiracy Of The Rich Illuminati Rulers ( why work to profit the oppressor?, indeed ).  Of the two, I’d have to admit to favoring the one on welfare.  They might cost the taxpayer a bit of coin ( or, not really.  When most of the budget used on rich person welfare-interest to the bankers, ag credits for ethanol, military spending, etc.- are taxes from the middle class, everything else in the budget must be borrowed.  Borrowing is at the point it is so large it can never be paid back.  In effect, what is the harm in the payments as it is only a ledger book entry tracking the path to bankruptcy? ).

*

But they at least aren’t trying to spread the word far and wide like the Libertarians are.  Don’t get me wrong.  Who wouldn’t like freedom?  I’m rather partial to it myself.  But Libertarians want to throw the baby out with the bath water.  They completely ignore the actual costs of social cohesion, preferring to believe the omniscient Free Market will solve all ills.  The problem is that “free market” is just code for “welfare to the rich”.  Our system is geared towards feathering the nests of the rich and for the last thirty years prior to the ‘08 Crash they spread the lies of free market and international trade to screw all the workers.  Libertarians mean well, and in theory their idea of paradise far surpasses the Populist Party or the Socialist/Commies or what have you, but in practice under our unchangeable by all but revolution ( voting doesn’t count, as even a country bumpkin like Mark Twain has noted ), all Libertarians do is spread the poison of enabling the rich from their propaganda.  And anarchists, such as myself, are even worse.  We don’t even want a shadow of government which might, conceivably, block the worst excesses of the rich ruling class.

*

Free Marketers even have a standard excuse for any issues its imperfect wishful thinking conjures.  It’s better than all the rest.  Which is of course that they ALL say, isn’t it?  No, the problem isn’t even what kind of government the nation state or agricultural empire uses for control.  The problem is centralization at all in any form.  That leads to loss of liberty.  Once the first grain crops lead to surplus, it was all over for individual freedom.  But that itself only solves HALF the problem.  With reward goes responsibility.  Our hunter/gatherer ancestors were not free to do as they wished.  They were far from proto-Libertarians.  They had very heavy obligations, namely as warriors to protect the tribe ( and yes, protection included proactive defense.  Or, offensive warfare ).  Their very lives were at the beck and call of the group.  But unlike soldiers who were cannon fodder, or Archer Pin Cushions  prior to gunpowder, a warrior does not die at the pleasure of the kings avarice as soldiers do.  He dies only when unavoidable and for his family and his families protectors.

*

Libertarians, as well as welfare recipients, don’t want any responsibility, no obligations.  They only want reward.   A warrior earns his freedom by pledging tribal fealty.  As long as he observes the simple and common sense cultural customs of his tribe ( which make sense as they are survival traits.  Laws, on the other hand, SHOULD canonize custom but usually just cement rule and riches for the elite ) AND pledges his life for their protection, he is free.  No one under more centralized governments ever came close to his level.  The overwhelming issue with today’s First World Countries citizens is their complete blindness to responsibility.  Nearly free oil destroyed all culture and custom and cemented the illusion of luxury at such an unlimited degree that nothing but petroleum was needed to protect the tribe ( you’ll perhaps note the unshakeable faith in oil and its placenta, Technology, in the defense of our country.  What fools are we ).  Or care for the tribe.  Government, being the guardian of oil, was tasked with the welfare of the tribe.  You’ll also note, I trust, how poorly that has worked out.

*

But we destroyed masculinity, tribalism, decentralization and any and all non-petroleum solution to any problem.  Then, the oil started running out ( in Net Energy terms ).  As it ran out faster, the quicker we tried to apply more of the very same failed solutions to all our problems.  Example: metal is getting harder to mine with expensive energy, so use more energy as plastic as a substitute.  Another example: more people were using less energy, so allow more immigrants into the line to draw down the supply.  And, of course, the example we talk about as the main article theme, we cared far less about the group and only about ourselves.  Which just exacerbated all the problems beyond belief.  Keep this firmly in mind when starting your new, post-collapse tribe.  Any Oil Age resident most likely is just a nihilistic self-centered selfish jerk.  Even the “freedom lovers” such as Libertarians only think of themselves, not the group.  This way of thinking is rock solid now, and was born of decades of pie shrinking, leading to the survival trait of selfishness and legitimizing theft.

new math attitude 2 of 3

NEW MATH ATTITUDE 2

Our Elites have always been in Empire Acquisition Mode.  Since prior to 1776.  I won’t rehash except to timeline things for you in a few paragraphs ( we have other fish to fry today besides the historical asswhores that enslaved us ).  A large part of what drove the revolution was the halt on western expansion dictated by the British Crown.  Our rich humpers over here, who had been gleefully hauling in the profits under said Brits, had also been in charge of Indian genocide ( which was profitable ) and there was no way in Hades that some Limey sum-bitch was going to stop their gravy train by recognizing the “rights” of red heathen savages.  Freedom and independence got the rubes lined up in front of the Redcoats formation ( I used to be your typical military type hating on draft dodgers.  After reading a bit of history, I no longer hold that view.  Patriotism is a manipulative device used against the poor-now I just feel sorry for anyone who willingly signs up or is dragooned ).

*

The War Between The States was never about slavery.  The idiots who pushed the Constitution on us, destroying States rights and empowering the federal government, allowed the institution willingly to get the then sovereign States in the South to give up their independence over a hundred years prior to the Civil War.  By the federal governments own laws, slavery was legal.  I can’t believe anyone buys into the myth anymore, except FedGov minions.  And after the South’s defeat ( and they were far from innocent themselves, employing nearly the same centralizing tendencies as their enemy-but they were LESS evil.  Yes, even if they owned slaves.  The Yankees did too, but hid that asshattery behind lies and deception, just as they do now ) the feds didn’t even pretend the states residents were anything less than serfs.  They were now imperial subjects and were to be used as chattel ( now, what was the Civil War fought about? ).

*

And all that crap in the twentieth century, that was straight up imperial government, from establishing a central bank to stealing gold to slaughtering our soldiers in foreign adventures.  We have always been an empire.  Any educated historian pussy-footing around that is an ignorant toady.  And the average citizen cared less we were an empire, could care less if we killed Indians or Mormons or Blacks or little brown men overseas, or the poor misguided fools in our own uniform, as long as they got some benefits from that.  Do you think the average American hates himself because he is a fat slob lugging around a marshmallow carcass from car to cubical to couch?  Hell to the no, yo!  We wallow in leisure and laziness like a pig in mud on a hot day.  What we do emphatically NOT enjoy is someone trying to take away our god given right to said luxuries and leisure time.  We figure we did the hard part, cheering Grandpa Earl on as he lost a limb to a Jap shell, and so we deserve what we were promised.

*

The last fifty to sixty years of social unraveling was due to one thing and one thing only ( all others are effects rather than causes ).  Imperial subjects who had willingly done the heavy lifting for the ruling class were slowly but surely deprived of their promised piece of the pie.  Their payoff.  Bitches gots to be paid, yo!  The proletariat was promised their reward for supporting the system, and as net oil shrunk ( by this time, ALL wealth had been tied to oil, and oil alone ) they had to be paid less and less.  As population increased and net oil shrank, per capita energy declined.  Hence the share of wealth decreased.  As population increased and net oil declined and more wealth was diverted to the ghettos to pacify those who had little then saw they were in line to get less that that, as immigration increased and automation increased so that less wealth went to the workers, as women were put in the workforce and northern factories shuttered, social cohesion disintegrated.

*

Everyone getting less fought far more bitterly to lose less than the other guy.  Of course, those multigenerational conflicts all came to naught, for in the end everyone not on the elites Endangered Species List lost almost everything.  All that is left is 150 channels on TV and corn derivative diets and an early death from malnourishment, far worse medical care and the formaldehyde off-gassing from their mobile homes interior.   Or, if they work hard at it, from smoking, cell phone brain cancer or a auto wreck.  We mostly focus on the freefalling economy after the ‘70’s oil crashes, and all the follow on effects to today, but you don’t go from Happy Days to the Sex Pistols overnight.  Selfish asswhores screwing everyone else didn’t suddenly manifest itself because of The Pill or a fall in church attendance or Vietnam or whatever.  As a forced together non-homogenous racist xenophobic class conscious group of individuals, we were NEVER a tribe.  Obviously we held our crap together for many generations before we openly manifested out hatred towards each other.

*

If you asked a Politically Correct Crossing Guard, a commutard, a liberal armpit hair weaving Birkenstock wearing Volvo driving tree hugger, we have all learned to in fact get along.  Don’t believe it for a second.  We despise one another ( do you wonder why you have so few friends or that you can’t find a prepper group?  There you go ).  Not for historical slights ( that idea is placed into soft pudding heads by their handlers to regurgitate at command ) or skin color or age or gender.  That is all just handy identifiers on the battlefield.  We hate the very ground everyone else walks on because those whores are stealing what is rightfully ours.  And that started long before Watts burned down.  When, I couldn’t exactly tell you-that is a lifetime research subject.  But intuitively you agree with me.  It took awhile for everyone to catch on they were getting shafted and the only reason the Sixties saw such conflict because the seeds had long ago been planted and watered.  We’ll finish up tomorrow.

new math attitude 1 of 3

NEW MATH ATTITUDE

I imagine you are weary of hearing about energy, oil, Peak Oil, Net Energy and all the rest, but you are the ones that signed up for the difficult course work here at Bison University.  If you wanted community college, go to Rawles.  If you wanted an elementary school, go to The Economic Collapse Blog.  I am SOOOOO sorry that empires run on surplus energy and we are almost out of not only the surplus but most energy period.  What, you sputter and spit and vomit blood, America has the Fracking Miracle of 100 years of energy independence.

*

( Glen Beck said so!  By the way, if you want a correspondence course through the radio, on par with that creepy Neo-Nazi guy who sends Xerox newsletters proving the earth is flat and Mud People are involved in a conspiracy to eradicate the Whites [ who were innocent of the America’s continents genocide since that was the Spanish and everyone knows they aren’t REALLY white but more of a mongrel mix after being invaded by Mohammedans ] then by all means listen to Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh.  After Glen got religion and became a Frack Fag he downgraded food storage to a mere Rich Persons Benevolent Food Welfare For Flood Victims so as one, not to lose any advertisers who started with him when he was Chicken Little and two, to join the 10%’ers of the elite’s cheerleaders.  Just as Rush did decades ago.  Once Democrats are purged we immediately revert back to Beaver Cleaver Land.  Just ask him and he’ll tell you.  How does that make him a Systems Handler/Propagandist?  It doesn‘t matter which Party you cheer for, as long as you endorse the current one.  Keep pretending The Vote matters.  You‘ll get some ad dollars as long as you pull in the listeners ).

*

I do apologize for being a bit slow on the uptake.  I’ve been studying systems collapse since pre-Y2K and Peak Oil right after that non-event.  I really should have caught on earlier.  Alas, I didn’t.  It wasn’t at all about running out of oil.  That was what I fixated on and that is what colored by meek analytical efforts.  When you concentrate on volume, you miss so many subtleties you can’t but help draw the wrong conclusions.  Volume doesn’t mean dingus.  It is all about Net Energy, or EROI.  Once you accept that, it is easy to see why the ’60’s social disruptions took place and why a mere 5% decrease in total oil withheld from exportation from OPEC crashed our economy.

*

I was always confused as to what caused the ’60’s riots and revolutions and upheavals.  It wasn’t JUST the Vietnam War.  Why would kids go to Korea but refuse to go to Vietnam?  Neither was a just or necessary war.  Both were sacrificing poor children at the alter of Military/Industrial Complex profits.  Nixon had not yet screwed up the general publics trust in the government.  But I think if you look at the 1971 US Peak of Oil and see a huge lose of EROI as compared to the 1920’s/1930’s, you can catch a glimpse of the rot in our society long before that date.  We had been losing net energy the whole time.  Even as the number of barrels pumped increased, we got ever less BTU’s delivered total.  If we had pumped 5 million barrels a day ( mbpd ) at 100 to 1 net, that surely beats today’s 20 mbpd at a max of 10 or 15 to 1 ( a bit of light sweet crude jacking up the net energy a bit on all that tar sands and deep sea oil and fracking and ethanol which is at most 5 to 1 net )( 100 to 1= one hundred barrels delivered at the cost of one barrel of oil to pump/extract/process ).

*

Oil is no different than grades of coal.  We’ve been out of the good stuff-high BTU’s-for decades.  Moved down to the next lower BTU grade, used most of THAT up and are now down to the crap stuff, mostly pollution with a lot less energy delivered upon burning.  We are mining more coal than ever before!  We must be Energy Independent!  Right, Spanky!  And if I gave you one glass of pure water a day, would it be an improvement if I doubled that to two glasses a day if the second glass had sewage in it?  But just Parts Per Million!  No big deal, right?

*

So, here we are in an economy that ran on Unlimited Energy Every Day.  The rich get that way by taking most of those free resources ( or Near Free, anyway ).  The government gets to continue Empire Building, which gives the rich more free stuff , by taxing the lower and middle class.  It is a neat system.  Until the free stuff starts costing more.  And that is exactly what lower net energy is, LESS free energy.  Our system needs constant growth.  More rich kids are born and must stay rich.  Growth is what keeps more riches directed at the already rich and their offspring, plus the systematic cost of keeping that wealth plus more coming in ( the 10% that are the Keepers Of Their Masters Wealth who get most of the leftover crumbs by guarding the system.  They are the Flag Officers and Judges and Police Commissioners and Wardens and Pravda Media and Right Wing Political Radio Commentators etc. ).  If your energy surplus decreases, that is the same as a drop in wealth.  Stable energy is NOT what our system needs to function, INCREASED energy is.  If the net energy is decreasing, so is the wealth.  And not just the wealth but the energy needed to maintain the complete infrastructure of our country and society.

*

Real wealth ( as defined by surplus energy ) has been on the decline not for fifty years, but much longer.  Perhaps as long as eighty years.  It only became noticeable in the 1970’s, when our net VOLUME oil decreased, but the NET energy had been declining prior to that.  So, yes, I have been guilty on focusing on the 45 year long decline when I should have been aware of the previous one in net energy.  It makes a big difference, because it considerably shrinks the time we have left for our entire systems survival.  If net energy wasn’t important, we would imagine we have until 2030 to 2050 before Peak Oil kicked our ass.  That assumes we could suck out the remaining half before it all went to crap.  But if our system is already at the point we are near a negative return on pumped hydrocarbons in terms of Net Energy ( which looks likely ), we are looking at Very Near Collapse.  Stick with me here, I haven’t even gotten to the social aspects of diminishing energy which is where this article is headed.  More Tomorrow.

truthers tales

TRUTHERS TALES

Right before the first day of fall, ‘Ol Remus in the Woodpile Report had disdainful things to say about the 9/11 “Truthers”.  Summarizing, he acknowledged anomalies in the Official Truth but called the storyline of the Truthers Tedious Bunk.  He also likened 9/11 conspiracy theories as fireside tales told to Pakistani children.  “Look how they destroy their own city and blame it on us“.  I wasn’t a hundred percent sure how to take his comments and read it over a few more times.  As far as I can tell, Remus was saying if an ignorant peasant approved of the 9/11 conspiracy theory, it must be false because us White Folk in civilized societies think much more rationally ( I could be wrong on these assumptions and if true tender my apologies before hand ).  As to his other point, I too find the stories told by Truthers to be much ado about diddly squat.  I mean, who friggin cares if the plane was remote controlled or never had passengers or whatever.  All I know is that the Truth According To The Feds is complete and utterly false.  I could care less how they pulled it off-I just know that the official explanation are blatant lies.

*

I’m not sure if ‘Ol Remus is tired of hearing about the conspiracy, or if he disbelieves it completely.  I know a lot of bloggers refuse to even discuss the issue.  There seems to be largely two camps.  One loves the government because they think that is the same as loving your country and believes what they are told and the other can only believe the very worst of the government.  Or, again, just like poser preppers or real survivalists, the difference is between optimists and pessimists.  I’m firmly in the school of crediting government with actively attempting to screw us constantly and habitually lying about it.  I don’t really care HOW they lie to us.  Was the Maine blowing up in Havana a boiler explosion?  Did we provoke the Spanish in firing on us?  Who cares?!  It is enough to know that the weakest empire around with choice territories we wanted to steal needed to be blamed for an act of aggression.  Details are minor notes of interest, and they do serve a purpose in bringing over non-believers to the pessimists camp.  But it doesn’t matter which scenario actually took place.  It only matters who benefited.

*

It might be interesting to know that the passenger liner torpedoed by the Germans was actually full of munitions and so in a violation of international law and hence not a war crime to be sunk.  Or not.  Even if it wasn’t true, Wilson was going to get us involved in WWI somehow or another.  The Bankers demanded it.  And even if they didn’t, our march towards empire did.  Who benefits?  While I’m certain of the culpability of our elite lords and masters, I could care less if I can prove HOW they screwed us.  It is enough to know that there is a far higher probability of a conspiracy theory being true when the accused benefits, as opposed to the far lower odds of the rich and powerful only being here to serve the interests of the common volk.  Wasn’t the initial smear campaign against conspiracy theorists conducted by the CIA itself?  Wow, there’s a whole bunch of folks you can trust your bank account and your daughters virginity to.

*

I believe it is quite healthy to be mistrustful of our leaders ( and the institutions they lead.  I have ZERO belief another person will act any different than the current one.  When you think an agencies behavior is merely due to “a few bad apples”, and yet one bad apple after another keeps up the same poor behavior, and the institution does nothing to stop the NEXT bad apple from doing the same, it just might be time to blame the group itself ).  I don’t need to “prove” that 9/11 was a conspiracy.  It is so flipping obvious it scares me that people can buy into the official version.  Hello, can you say “third tower pancakes”, or “NO debris outside the Pentagon”?  I mean, seriously, dude.  Do I have “proof” that there were Manchurian Candidates?  Of course not.  Do I care how they were programmed?  Not especially.  If it was LSD, I want some of that stuff!  Does it matter how the other Kennedy and MLK were killed?  Not really, but it seems pretty obvious, IF you are paranoid and mistrustful, that the official story is bullspit.

*

Nobody should be asking you to buy into their theories 100%.  If you have the necessary skepticism to believe in a conspiracy in the first place, that should follow over into not being hooked by any one detail of said theory.  It should just be enough to keep an open mind and not believe ANYONE, whether government apologist or Fed Hater.  I’m convinced that FDR drug us into WWII by trickery, just as Wilson did in the earlier war.  In the first world war, the bankers profited nicely.  In the second, we stole the global empire from England, AND saved our economy.  Are you telling me that both those results weren’t so important that our leaders wouldn’t resort to trickery to achieve?  I don’t care if FDR pushed the Japs into attacking us by embargoes or not.  It seems obvious, so I accept it as Probable Enough.  How is that an impossibly conspiracy theory?  Why is it impossible to believe that sacrificing a small amount of obsolete warships in exchange for a huge surge in manufacturing capacity to rescue the economy, AND keeping those factories humming after the war for a global market is an impossibility?

*

How is it possible to be so rabidly anti-conspiracy theory that you are willing to suspend belief in the laws of physics?  A couple of drops of kerosene splattered from a nearby impact cause an entire building to come crashing down?  Really?  I’ve never noticed steel frame buildings falling down from being on fire, ever, anywhere.  But since a Yankee carpetbagger who claimed to have Found The Lord said it by gum happened on his watch, it is suddenly “a thing”?  Does anyone remember how much money was spent after 9/11?  How about the money made off of the crash itself?  WHO BENEFITS?  Think for yourself, people.

forever gun book 4

THE FOREVER GUN BOOK 4
*
note: Family Dollar, after the last reported dead battery fiasco, continues its fine tradition of racing to the bottom by discontinuing its affordable toilet paper.  Well, at least they are currently having a sale on summer footwear.  I got two sets of soccer sliders at half price.

BP & ARCHERY

Obviously, after a few seconds of thought, you’ll know it is impossible to ever be unarmed.  Prisoners can find the smallest bit of metal and turn it into a “shiv” ( a homemade knife for those who’ve never read a book or watched a movie, or fuzzy foreigners who have little to no idea what in the bloody hell us Yanks are yammering on about-and, yes, I forgive you for calling me a Yankee as you know not of what blasphemy you speak ).  Deposited naked in the wilderness, some of you might be able to knap a rock and create a spear.  In the ruins of our civilization you shall be able to find a twenty-five cents paring knife, remove the handle and make a much better spear.  Bows are merely a matter of finding the right wood and a LOT of practice, both to construct and utilize.  If you inhabit a desolate area, you could do a lot worse ( IF you have the aptitude and the fortitude ) than living a Stone Age existence.  Any better armed intruder won’t be able to match your woodcraft and you can ambush him easily.

*

For the rest of us civilized folk who enjoy the company of others, the other side of the coin of society is our fellow man acting badly.  You need to be well armed to dissuade anti-social behaviors.  In this case, what kind of weapon takes on significantly more importance.  You can’t arm yourself in too inferior a manner, even if tactics and terrain make a difference.   For instance, in a defensive position black powder firearms, utilized in bulk behind earthworks, are not as disadvantaged as when mobile-at least not if the enemy has smokeless arms.  In the eastern seaboard area, dense and lush growth in the mountains put invaders at a disadvantage and being armed with a flintlock, given your knowledge of the area and practice navigating it, doesn’t automatically work against you tactically.

*

So, if your situation allows it, a black powder flintlock isn’t the worst choice for a Forever Gun.  It does have to be flintlock, because if you are buying percussion caps you might as well just stick with modern smokeless arms.  The cost of a small pistol primer and a charge of pistol powder is barely over the cost of a percussion cap.  Why handicap yourself if you don’t need to?  And to be clear, you will NOT be able to manufacture your own caps.  It is possible.  Anything is possible.  Hell, if we see an ELE ( extinction level event ), you might actually be one of the whole ten thousand humans globally to survive.  It certainly is as probable as you making modern arms components at a cottage industry level.  The real challenge with a flintlock is going to be keeping the moving parts from breaking, or replacing/repairing them, not making black powder.  And reproduction flintlocks are FAR from affordable.  Expect to spend closer to a grand than to a few hundred bucks.

*

It is feasible to use a flintlock as a Forever Gun, but not recommended.  I’d advise using the same amount of money to buy reloading components for the rifle you already have.  Sometime in the future, flintlocks might be the weapons of the new superpowers ( being defined, of course, as much smaller than today since surplus energy is needed for transportation ), but for now they are very problematic compared to what you could be using or what your opponents will be using against you.  The original concept of the Forever Gun still stands.  All things being equal, it is far better tactically to employ even a smaller smokeless round against a bigger black powder one.  All other things being equal being the telling phrase here.

*

Archery is great for hunting, and I include crossbows here if you need to bypass the training issue, and have zero issues ( or near enough, in the case of the crossbows given their need for metal.  It should be some time before salvage gives out ) with the “forever” part.  Alas, they blow monkey chunks compared to firearms.  Before gunpowder, you had two basic types of weapons, far back into antiquity when metal was first used in arms.  You had missile weapons and you had shock weapons.  Missiles utilized distance but you usually, baring luck, needed multiple hits for a casualty ( or, much time for a bleed-out.  In organized combat, time was usually a factor ).  They had inferior stopping power, in other words.  Shock weapons incapacitated your enemy nearly instantaneously.  Nothing like a chopped off leg or a bashed in skull to stop the attack.  But you were TOO close and hence it was a very dangerous practice.

*

Firearms changed that equation, which was the only reason they were revolutionary ( otherwise, they just would have been another missile weapon that needed less training and hence allowed the peasantry to be drafted into a more effective force ).  A bullet at powder induced velocity acts as a shock weapon.  With the distance of a missile weapon.  You combine both advantages into one weapon, AND you need far less training for your troops.  And shoulder arms are relatively lower tech.  And relatively affordable.  Needing ten thousands of them, that was another matter that forced governments to grow to evolve with the finances needed, but you couldn’t NOT build a gunpowder army if you wanted to survive.  And archery weapons were pretty close to zero competition.  If you like military history, check out “The Imjin War”.  The military contrast between the two was briefly covered.  Just note that the Russian Empire finally overcame the nomadic horsemen archers only after arming with firearms.

*

Archery has a place, but not on the near future battlefield.  It is a Forever Weapon, but not a Forever Gun.  It wouldn’t hurt to know how to make bows and arrows, but hope that you can always have a real gun, even black powder, instead.

The price is the best-basically free, but the price tactically is unacceptable.

relax francis

RELAX, FRANCIS
*
note: Paylie Roberts, post-apocalyptic porn writer extraordinaire, has her stuff on KU.
*
Remember one of the funniest movies of all time, “Animal House”?  The retard guy with the Poindexter glasses pipes up after the fraternity knows they are screwed after failing to maintain a suitable grade average ( and hence will be reported to the draft board as eligible ).  “Well, what the hell are we going to do now, ya Mo-Rons?”.  Funny because he’s calling other people a moron?  Seriously?  You’re not smiling right now, recalling the scene ( I could be off on the details-perhaps it was in another situation?  )?  What am I going to do with you people?  Okay, here’s another one.  Not as funny of a movie because it was with one of the many overrated cast of Saturday Night Live; “Stripes”.  The uptight guy, Francis,  is threatening bodily harm to all his basic training mates if they do anything to piss him off.  “Any of you homo’s touch my stuff, I’ll kill you!” “Any of you call me Francis, I‘ll kill you“.  The Drill Sergeant then calls him Francis, telling him to relax.

*

Folks have a hard time relaxing anymore, and I know I’m one of them.  At times I can get wound pretty tight.  Usually when I’m getting screwed over by someone and I can’t butt stroke them or bayonet them for fear of going to jail and getting probed.  I mean, sure, I understand.  If we were given permission to administer justice there wouldn’t be any indentured servants left to work for our masters.  Nor any straw bosses enforcing their masters dictates.  That doesn’t make it right that the deserving escape punishment.  And I’m certainly not telling you to NOT hold a grudge.  Hate keeps you warm ( “Red Dawn the original” since we are on movies right now ).  And hate allows you to hold on to the slightest bit of dignity after all the rectal licking, ass kissing, kowtowing and obsequious behavior you are forced to engage in.  And hate keeps you alert and ready ( I assume it is understood this is mostly directed at males.  We might be denied our warrior heritage due to the state mandate on the monopoly of violence, but you never forget your biology-you just need to keep channeling your true nature for when you can use it again ).

*

But even being stressed, uptight and hateful, you do need to learn how to relax once in awhile least you go insane or Postal.  As nice as it might be to deliver deserved comeuppances, it is unfortunately only a one time deal.  Then you end up in prison, and if you are a white boy, that is one place you need to try to stay out of.  You’d have a better chance of survival streaking naked through Harlem shouting the N-Bomb at the top of your lungs.  I used to be able to engage in one activity a day to relax and unwind ( after my drinking days.  The unfortunate issue with alcohol as a relaxant is that work and other people issues intrude on the process and before you know it your stress levels have increased ).  Then I had to keep adding to that as my stress just kept increasing ( and you thought being debt free with a part time job was relaxing-hell no!  It is MORE relaxing and there is LESS stress, but not proportionately ).

*

Now just reading and escaping reality won’t work.  Adding TV to relax the brain at night barely does anything.  It used to be writing was very helpful.  Then I needed to add cardio exercise.  Nowadays, I can ONLY relax while doing one of the above, but it does NOT carry over much past the active part of that time period I am engaged in the activity.  And now I’ve added another-rolling cigarettes.  I only started because I’m so sick of rich humpers passing more taxes on the poor working class I’ll go out of my way to avoid them if at all possible.  I’m happy to be working under the hours requiring the Obammy Health Care Tax.  I don’t care if it means I have very little disposable income.  And if I need to spend twenty minutes a day rolling cigarettes to keep $3 a week out of the hands of our douche bag governor, I’ll do it.  Perhaps not happily.  But as a matter of necessity.

*

I could spend more money on more equipment and spend just twenty minutes a week, but that defeats the purpose of keeping more of my money.  And, it has become another period of relaxation.  I laboriously weigh out all the tobacco, stuff it into tubes, pack the filter on the table to settle the leaves and then twist the surplus paper so nothing falls out later.  Boring.  And this is the exact same process I envision on reloading my ammunition.  All affordable, cheap equipment, the bare minimum, and spending a lot of time on each round.  Not only have I traded my time so as to not spend money, I’ve gained another relaxation activity.  I bring up the Lee Loader, and I get grief because all other presses churn out far more ammunition far more quickly.  But the important thing is not just learning to relax, but to learn how to replace our modern lifestyle in order to do so ( and yes, I’m aware that I consume a lot of Industrial Age items in my pursuit of relaxation-it is a necessary first step towards easing away from the hustle and bustle ).

*

If you think about almost everything we do, it is all about EVERYTHING we used to do for ourselves being turned into a consumer activity ( supported by more time at the job and more debt ).  And it isn’t as if there are any easy answers fighting against that.  For instance, just having a place of your own to be out of the bankers claws means in almost every state you pay insane property taxes that dictate you need at least a casual income to pay.  And if you work at any level of income that supports a family, and that property, you get sucked into the medical insurance system which now rivals-if not surpasses-the levels of taxation that collapsing Rome employed to drive its poor into serfdom or fleeing to barbarian held territory.  It is pretty darn scary how much we resemble that empire in decline.  So why should prepping be any different, right?  Don’t saw down that tree by hand-buy multiple chainsaws and all the parts and fuel and fuel accessories.  Don’t learn how to be a woodsman, buy semi-auto’s and buy enough ammunition to destroy your enemy wherever he is hiding there.  Being a Luddite doesn’t just mean rejecting ( or at least seriously minimizing ) Industrialism because it won’t last much longer but also because it gets you off the money-centric treadmill.
