economics and finances 3 of 3

ECONOMICS AND FINANCES 3
*
note: there will be a bonus article tomorrow.  Too short for a weekday post, too long for a note.
*
Okay, so you understand that if you ditch the car for muscle powered commuting ( I’ve almost never owned a car in 33 years of working.  It isn’t too difficult.  Move, settle, get a job nearby.  I’m actually confused why folks have such a hard time conceiving of a car-less life ) you have both saved a HUGE amount on your budget and improved your health.  As your health improves, you don’t need health insurance and that saves ANOTHER quarter on your budget.  Once you handle the rent/debt part, you are suddenly going from in the red every payday on $30k a year to having mad money every payday on under $10k ( it is important to earn under this amount to avoid that vicious prick Obammy’s Health Insurance Tax.  Talk about a regressive tax, mine doubles as soon as I earn one dollar over that amount.  For the whole thing, not just the amount over ).  You can whine all you want about circumstances and Wifely Pressures ( and not in a good way-ha!  Get it? ) and I’m not discounting your problems.  Just saying this reality will kick you in the ass soon enough whether you want it or not.

*

Now you are going to have to eat more healthy.  It isn’t hard or difficult or expensive.  The “experts” make it out to be so, but they are flaming retarded douche-bags bent on separating you from your money.  You SHOULD eat organic, but you can’t.  You SHOULD never touch unhealthy foods, but you have to.  You SHOULD support locally grown and avoid pesticides and GMO’s, but all that is a rich bitch’s game ( no one is saying you can’t grow some of your own, I’m merely stating that other than a healthy salad or vegetable dish every day, the huge majority of your calories are going to have to come from the BigIndustrialAg monopoly ).  It is just like exercise.  You can’t Be Perfect.  Stop listening to experts and trust in some common sense.  Experts want your money, so their advice should be suspect.  You think the gym owner will tell you to jog and lift your own set of weights?  Does a barber tell you that you don’t need a haircut?  Will a doctor tell you that you don’t need a surgery.  Or drugs?  Come on!  A yoga instructor will swear on the Holy Mother Gaia that if you take her class you will live to 100 in peace and harmony and be able to fellatio yourself ( only the last part might be true ).

*

Just do the best you can, try to constantly improve your diet, use processed foods sparingly ( try to do as much as possible from scratch, but don’t go crazy.  Store bought pasta is fine, but not a frozen chicken nugget-the pasta doesn’t have 23 ingredients you can’t pronounce, nor fillers, nor food coloring and flavor enhancements ) if at all.  Drink that water ( it does an amazing job of eliminating a lot of issues ).  If you think vitamins are a good bet ( I mega-dose on Vitamin C and am always either not getting the crud that goes around or getting a very mild version.  Hint, take it PRIOR to getting sick, not during.  You must build your immune system before hand ), take them as long as you don’t get stupid about it.  You may not be able to avoid all white flour or white sugar, but try to minimize.  Whole grains are gross at first but after a time your body will crave them.  Fresh veggies are more important as an enzyme source than for vitamins ( most soil is denuded and dead and most crops today are nutrient deficient ) so don’t skip them ( but don’t go crazy eating too much, either.  Anything out of Michelle Obammy’s mouth is a friggin lie. Why eat that many servings of produce if they are so vitamin poor? ).

*

Don’t be stupid about diet fads.  A 5% body fat vegan is unhealthy.  Only eating protein will screw up your body.  Too many vitamins will give you at a minimum unwanted side effects.  Hell, too much water in too short a time is unhealthy.  Moderation, people.  Moderation, common sense and discipline rather than fanaticism.  You have to be your own doctor and you will learn what your body wants.  Once you get off the Twinkie and soda diet, and lose that fifty pounds that did nothing but cover your crotch as a slab, your body will “talk” to you about what it needs.  Just like a pregnant woman.  Listen to it.  You still need doctors for traumatic injuries but almost anything else you can do better than they can anyway.  For instance, I would NEVER under any circumstances get chemotherapy.  Do you honestly believe that placing pure poison in your body in a vague hope of eradicating some cancer cells before the poison kills you off entirely is a great idea?  It is a great idea-for the doctors and companies pushing the cure.  For you, more often than not, you die on the same time frame but in much more agonizing pain.

*

Chemo is just the worst example of unHealth Care we receive.  I don’t trust most of the pharmaceuticals they push, nor do I care for their caviler attitude in prescribing them ( just like a car mechanic, they guess which part is defective and hope they are replacing the right one.  Repeat until success.  The difference is, a car is a lot less intricate than your body and every drug given you masks symptoms and causes its own problems, more often than not ).  And now, to add to that, walking into a hospital is playing Russian Roulette with the super germs they are breeding.  My whole attitude is: if I didn’t break a limb or suffer a heart attack ( or, perhaps, if a strange growth is on my junk or a testicle swells up insanely ), stay out of the hospital ( and the heart attack would only send me there if I was unconscious and others decided that was what I needed ).  I’ll live longer and in better shape.  Why do I need health insurance?  To give half my income to the banking industry?  Suck my hairy rectum, Bankster Scum.  Nobody is trying to help me by suggesting I need health insurance or health care.  They just want all of my money, for the rest of my life.  I’ll roll the dice and go without.  If I die, what do I care?  I’m dead.  And it is going to happen sooner or later anyway.  Why do people act so spastic about death?  You think you are so valuable we all need you around longer?  Not hardly, dude.  With seven billion to pick from, we can get a better replacement.  Deal with it.

  1. Can't argue much with anything you wrote there. Overall - moderation is the key.

I quit the soda waters a few years ago and had no problem at all with it. Didn't miss them. Took a taste of A&W root beer awhile back and was mortified at how it was. The carbonation burn to my tongue was unbearable. The lack of flavor was stunning. Is it me? Or is that how the stuff really is? Dunno, I'm now on the other side and no frame of reference.

I'm trying to cut out *voluntary* sugar, and it's tough.
Was at Steak N Shake the other day and had a tea without sugar. Yeah, unsweetened. Not bad at all. In fact, I got a refill. From here on out unsweetened tea it is.

The *involuntary* sugar is a lot harder. That stuff is in everything once you learn all the disguise names it goes by.

BTW, did you know that inert wood products are being introduced into the food chain as filler? Yep, the FDA approved that sort of thing. Your tax dollars at work. Its not called wood filler in the ingredients list so you'll have to do some homework.

FWIW, all good things these days cost at least 4 times what you believe they should. If you buy anything now at an affordable price it is most likely flawed in one way or another.

Take olive oil for example. If you are paying less than $25 for a 16oz bottle it most likely is NOT olive oil, just junk made to pretend that it is. Yes, the rotten bastards can say right on the label 100% Olive Oil and get away with selling you fake stuff. Again, that your gov't.

If your boss told you that if you start saying red is blue xhe will give you a $10/wk raise would you do so?

The same premise with olive oil and a million other things.

    1. Best place to get sawdust? McDonalds. I wonder if they led the way for change in the law. My stomach can only tolerate two things from them-nuggets and fries. And they are luxury items.

  2. I have a letter from the VA declaring that I am exempt from Obama Care fines. That paper is as important as my birth certificate.
What good is it being "not dead" if all the effort you put into the world is guaranteed stolen for a promise of living a little longer?
I want to leave some money for my favorite people, not evil bastards across a continent, that is if I can't think of something worthwhile to do with the cash now.

    1. I don't care if I leave money or not-my kids show little interest in my writing so why worry about loyalties? I just don't want the dirty rich crooks to profit off my pain any more than necessary.

  3. Warren Pollock is going to be a guest on the Greg Hunter USA Watchdog u-toob channel on sunday night. WEP must know some folks or be an (observant) insider, because his macro-observations of 3 years ago keep happening. He got yanked back to the dirt-people world (worthless .gov response, surrounded by people who won't help themselves) by enjoying Hurricane Sandy from Long Island.

  4. The solution to the "earning too much money" problem is to stop earning "visible income". Trade with people for favors. Watch out for them and get what they need, for n/c or crazy-cheap. Accept money in return but prefer that they do the same. We need each other more than we need the next $10K (the first $10K is important as walking around money).

It really helps to not be hooked on cash-only vices, like liquid fuels for daily transport/bath salts/heroin/contraband/brand-name pharma or packaged-food.

It looks and feels like "going Galt" without the secret valley of rich people. You do get to sleep more and have time for reading/thinking. You get all the advantages of being "poor", with none of the protesting/rioting/crime requirements.

    2. Right, why make twice what you need and give half of it to the thieves when you can make 1/2 as much and keep all of it. After wading into it for 20 years I finally went full Galt in 2004 and have no regrets. Here in a few months I'm going to flip the whole paradigm and start making some of my money back, for free. fukkem ded.

    4. Only the rich think they shouldn't pay taxes. Nothing wrong with supporting your community. The problem is when your taxes go to special interests rather than community. Today, from what I can tell, 90% of all taxes go to line someone's pocket.

    5. Nothing wrong with "voluntarily" supporting your community.

      Agreed.
But when someone threatens me for any reason I'm prone to resists and put distance between us. I'd expect the same or worse if I threatened anyone.

    6. Voluntary support doesn't work-too many free riders.

    7. Just don't give em anything, the free riders that is. They don't get shitzski from me any more. Ever notice how places like Walmart etc. don't have free riders? Only where gov't permeates do free riders propagate.

    8. Just keep them from riding.
Free riders exist at all levels of society.
If you dont pay your cop taxes, you dont get police protection, if you dont pay your school taxes your kid doesnt go to school, if you dont pay your road tolls you dont get to use that road.
Its not hard. It is much the way things used to be done, here in the USA and still is done to some extent in other places. If you dont want the service, you dont pay for the service, if you need it later you have to pay a premium.

  5. Not to beat a dead horse here James, since I've commented on this before a few times, but I think that you live in a unique situation where land is cheap and jobs are plentiful. I think that few rural areas that have cheap land, also have plenty of jobs within biking distance. Now if you can telecommute for decent pay, or if you carry no debt, then this opens up more possibilities. There are jobs to be found online now, but few of them pay well, so you must have very low overhead to get by with them.

But of course your are right in your overall point with regards to physical fitness. Just think, Jack Lalanne would probably still be alive today and still banging his elderly lady ( :D ) nightly had he only had a pneumonia shot. Also agree with you that short of seeing the doctors for all but the necessary (such as the aforementioned Mr Lalanne should have) they should be avoided for the most part. The stories I could tell about the incompetency that I saw in the hospital are jaw dropping.

Also, chemotherapy is a derivative of mustard gas. I did not know that until after the docs and big pharma killed my dad for profit with the stuff. It only accelerated his death, and he would have lived longer without treatment. Look up the effectiveness rate of it some time, and you'll be surprised. Yet it's pushed by the medical community as a treatment for your family members, when they themselves admit that they would never undergo it.

    1. Well, in my case, land is NOT cheap. Merely affordable. There are really not all that many jobs available even in good times. And, I assume most people are better skilled/trained than I am. So all in all I think my experience is easily duplicated. Details may vary, of course. I'd heard stories on chemo-I had no idea it was THAT bad. Damn!

    2. Cheap LAND, and jobs, could be found during the oil boom. Any sort of other temporary boom can be used for something similar - land, that cant otherwise be used can be found for a cheap enough price, a little bit away from the primary boom area, jobs can be found until the bust at a decent wage (in Williston ND was paying $15+/hr for a walmart and mcD's workers- and the jobs usually went vacant). Eventually comes a bust.
The locals wont consider you anything but an outsider until you have survived past the bust for a significant time.
And during the bust you might be able to find some useful goods to store away at a reasonable price...

  7. People act like organic food is only for snobs and such, when in reality, all food in the entirety of human history except the last 100 years or so has been organic. Organic is the standard, the other stuff is varying degrees of toxic. Boy is it expensive though. I read somewhere where the historical average food costs for a family was 1/3 of their income. In some times and places food expenses approached 100% of the budget.

This next part is primarily meant for the CA guy planning on moving to Elko. When I was a kid I used to mess around a lot on a Honda Trail 90. You can still find them in good shape. Super tough with tons of torque where you can haul a decent trailer (as long as you can maintain traction on your one skinny tire on your dirt road). Also, they're rated for 175 MPG at a steady speed of 25 MPH and top out at about 50 MPH. EMP-proof. A word of caution though, today I saw a motorcycle wreck. Guy was riding cautiously, about 35 through a turn. He got too close to the shoulder and went down on the gravel. The front fender came off, hit him in his sunglasses, and pushed the lens into his eye, nearly cutting it in half. He was strong enough to keep himself from being ejected, but while he was screaming about his eye, the exhaust was burning his bare leg (he was only wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and a half-helmet). I felt really bad for him. Lesson: motorcycles will jack you up for life, even when you're cautious. Also, wear full safety gear, leathers and a full (not half) helmet, every ride. I used to drive a 1993 Toyota 2wd pickup (pre-Tacoma). It was super tough, plenty of torque for a 4 cylinder, got better traction off road than I expected, and averaged 28 MPG. I was thinking if I was in your shoes (but I'm not) I would get an early 90's 2wd Toyota pickup with a camper shell I could sleep in. I would also make sure it had a quality posi-traction like a Detroit True-Trac in the rear end that was gear based, not clutch based like most OEM posi's that will wear out quickly since it will frequently engage on dirt roads. The 2wd is important for lower purchase price, lower ongoing fuel and maintenance costs, and so you don't get too brave and get yourself stuck in a worse spot than the 2wd would have gotten you. Carry a set of heavy-duty tire chains rated for off road use in case you need the traction bad enough. Also, if you haven't already, you must read Phil Garlington's "Rancho Costa Nada, The Dirt Cheap Desert Homestead". It was so good I read it three times. The only parts that offended me was that he uses the just-in-time grocery store for his food storage and he leaves the area during the hot summer months (cheater!).
    Peace out

  8. Thanks for the helpful input 6:26. The full face helmet, kevlar riding suit, etc, will be a given along with the motorcycle. I see many of the Honda Trail 90's where I live. A good one with a clean title costs on average around a $1000. They are a fine bike and I wouldn't rule one out, but would prefer something that could go on the highway if I ever had to. I'm particularly paranoid, don't drive fast, and will probably rarely ride it, only when needed.

Funny, because not only do I have the Rancho Costa Nada book, but I've read it 3 times! It was a big influence for me, along with James's blog. Prior to this, I used to wonder if anyone actually did this stuff? I also like Garlington's choice of desert vehicle, the fuel sipping Geo Metro. Thought of getting one and putting a winch on the front. But I'm also the minion that lost his electronics job of many years, and have not replaced it, hence the super low cost to operate and maintain motorcycle option.

    2. Yeah, I think it's been out of print in the hard copy version for some time now James. The book came out in 2003, and I'm pretty sure it was an old Loompanics publication. But I think Loompanics has been out of business now since around 2008. $5 for the kindle version is a good deal. It's a great book, and I can totally relate to his attitude about working for others.

    3. It was my understanding that Paladin bought up a lot of Loompanics books. They must have let this one go. Not sure why the author doesn't do Print On Demand. This book deserves being in paper.
